New Year – New You?
Yep. We’ve all been there. The rush of the career push, the diet, dry January and the chair-based yoga routine all kick in. With a good wind, the personal rebrand will be complete before the kids are back at school.
I’m not knocking the intent, but by now, I think we’ve all worked out that humans don’t work this way. If we did, we’d all be even shinier versions of ourselves than we were this time last year. And I don’t know about you, but for me, there’s always a little bit of tarnish hanging around, somewhere.
But that’s reality. Nothing wrong with a bit of tarnish – that’s who we are. That’s why our friends like us, so much – because we’re human. And usually, we’re comfortable with our slightly tarnished state of affairs.
But a new year triggers something. Sometimes we can think too big, on too many fronts, setting too many goals, for too soon. It’s unrealistic.
Challenging the notion of change or personal development may seem an unusual standpoint for a coach. But change isn’t the issue. It’s the expectation – the scale and speed that’s the issue.
Change needs to be easy, to evolve into transformation.
If you really want to feel a positive change in your life, take a look at my recent TEDx talk: How Being Dead Changed My Perspective On Life*.
I share three really easy steps for lasting change, all of which you can start today:
– The importance of recognising that any win’s a win (and why we should take them all)
– How to regain perspective through the power of the Sh1tometer
– How fear can reduce your life opportunities and the two questions you can ask to manage it
Give it a go. What’s the worst that can happen? And if you enjoy my talk, I’d be hugely grateful if you could like and share it with others who may get something from it too. 🙏
Even if your ‘others’ are already very shiny!
*Dying is not required to get the most out of the talk.
